Advanced Wastewater Treatment by Electro Self-Forming Dynamic Membrane Bioreactors: Pilot-Scale Application

Membrane bioreactor (MBR) is an alternative to the traditional-activated sludge processes. It is considered as one of the most significant innovations for wastewater treatment since it is much more reliable and efficient. However, membrane fouling and its consequences on plant maintenance and energy consumption limit the application of this promising technology. Recent studies have attempted… Continue reading Advanced Wastewater Treatment by Electro Self-Forming Dynamic Membrane Bioreactors: Pilot-Scale Application

Control of emerging contaminants by the combination of electrochemical processes and membrane bioreactors

This study investigates the removal of selected pharmaceuticals, as recalcitrant organic compounds, from synthetic wastewater using an electro-membrane bioreactor (eMBR). Diclofenac (DCF), carbamazepine (CBZ), and amoxicillin (AMX) were selected as representative drugs from three different therapeutic groups such as anti-inflammatory, anti-epileptic, and antibiotic, respectively. An environmentally relevant concentration (10 μg/L) of each compound was spiked into… Continue reading Control of emerging contaminants by the combination of electrochemical processes and membrane bioreactors

Fouling mitigation and wastewater treatment enhancement through the application of an electro moving bed membrane bioreactor (eMB-MBR)

High operational cost due to membrane fouling propensity remains a major drawback for the widespread application of membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology. As a result, studies on membrane fouling mitigation through the application of integrated processes have been widely explored. In this work, the combined application of electrochemical processes and moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) technology… Continue reading Fouling mitigation and wastewater treatment enhancement through the application of an electro moving bed membrane bioreactor (eMB-MBR)

Combination of electrochemical processes with membrane bioreactors for wastewater treatment and fouling Control: A review

This paper provides a critical review about the integration of electrochemical processes into membrane bioreactors (MBR) in order to understand the influence of these processes on wastewater treatment performance and membrane fouling control. The integration can be realized either in an internal or an external configuration. Electrically enhanced membrane bioreactors or electro membrane bioreactors (eMBRs)… Continue reading Combination of electrochemical processes with membrane bioreactors for wastewater treatment and fouling Control: A review
